Kinsey’s Korner Restaurant (formerly Sport's Pizza)
Thirty-five years of experience and counting, Kinsey’s Korner restaurant has been a local favorite for longer than many realize. Kinsey’s Korner was formerly Sport’s Pizza; same owners, same recipes, different name. “We still receive calls from customers for Sport’s Pizza”, explained co-owner Charlene Kinsey. “We want people to know they can still order their favorite Sport’s Pizza, but now, with Kinsey’s Korner, they can order more of their home-cooked favorites”, Ms. Kinsey continued. Now located in the historical home across the street from the former Sport’s Pizza location, Kinsey’s Korner offers the same friendly staff and famous pizza recipes with an extended menu of home-cooked delights.
Kinsey’s is snuggled away just a short drive down the road at 1281 State Route 183 in Atwater. They are located beside Atwater Congregational Church, with a quaint sign in the front for indication. Far from the hassle of driving to Canton, but far enough to make the trip feel like a getaway for the evening, Kinsey’s is just minutes from Alliance and Ravenna.
There is something to be said, and tasted, about a home-cooked meal. It makes even the pickiest eater delighted with the culinary experience. As the picky eater in my family, I know the role and frustration well. Not only do I have picky taste buds, I prefer to only dine at restaurants where I know the ingredients are not pre-packaged by chain monstrosities. Much to my delight I found myself in a cozy “corner” at Kinsey’s Korner Restaurant as the aroma of my Grandmother’s kitchen filled my heart with joy
Once seated, I mentioned to the owner my picky ways and my concern for fresh ingredients. My worries were completely gone after she explained, in detail, where they purchase all their produce and the finest cuts of meat. Charlene, co-owner with her husband Al Kinsey, also consoled me by suggesting how to best customize my meal for a stubborn eater like myself. Juicy, fresh vegetables, perfect bread and seasoning, whipped-to-perfection mash potatoes; needless to say my cuisine was superb. It was as if my mother herself customized the meal in a way only your own mother could achieve. Just like home cooking, I left the table that evening full, satisfied, and happy.
Kinsey’s Korner makes home cooking easy for you seven days a week starting with breakfast at 8 A.M. A great place to start the day off with a breakfast pizza or stop in later before the big game for a more traditional selection (I hear their ribeye steaks and baked pork chops rival the best around). Daily specials are available featuring menu items of swiss steak, pizza, sandwiches, chicken wings, roast beef, seafood and charbroiled steaks. Of course, you could choose to start with a steaming cup of coffee and “just dessert” from Kinsey’s selection of homemade pies, sundaes, and cheesecakes, including a sugar-free treat or two. Everyone in the family can enjoy their favorite food without being in the kitchen all day! Charlene and Al have created a warm and casual atmosphere providing their customers and friends with inviting, home-cooked meals any mother would approve.
