I WOULD RECOMMEND EVERYBODY STOP AT HERSHBERGER'S FARM AND BAKERY.MY FAMILY IS FROM VIRGINIA.WE TRAVELED UP TO SEE ABOUT PURCHASING A TEAM OF HORSES.THE PETTING ZOO WAS SETUP SO NEAT!ALL THE FOLKS WE TALKED TO WERE SO NICE.THE BAKED GOODS WERE SO DELICIOUS!WE ACTUALLY HAVE SOME OF THE STORE ITEMS SHIPPED TO US NOW!WE HAD A HARD TIME CHOOSING WHICH HORSES TO BUY BECAUSE WE LOVED THEM ALL! WE ARE DEFINITELY GOING TO HEAD UP A COUPLE TIMES A TEAR FROM NOW ON!
We took my son to the farm and walked him around to see the animals in the "petting farm" where he was then bitten by one of the ponies. The workers didn't really even seem to care and we had to ask for ice and a bandage. They didn't even ask which pony it was that bit my son who luckily walked away with just some bleeding wounds in his pinky. Don't bring your kids there for the petting farm. The animals bite.
I was very impressed by the Petting Farm - the animals were very nice and we had a wonderful time looking at them all more than once for sure. The workers out there were very nice and even went and brought Big Ben for us to see... I can't wait to go back next year again... Loved the place so much.. Next year I am riding Big Ben... Put your fingers in the mouths of animals they may bite.....Stop everyone as you will enjoy it alot.
We were in the area for our vacation around the 22nd of May - stopped more than once to see the animals and get some good baked bread, strawberries, etc. Thought it was amazing - had such a great time at the petting zoo. Everyone who worked there were very nice and would answer our questions, definitely, plan on making it a must stop when in the area. Loved Big Ben - he was taller than I am - WOW! What a sweet creature. Would love to purchase some of the kettle corn and have it shipped to us. Thanks again!!!!!
Sorry, I had to comment about the mom who's son was bitten by the pony. Mom were you watching your son? So was he being mean to the animals? I dont know, I just had to say something. Mean spirited blogs like this have to be rationalized.
WE LOVED IT! WE HELD EVERY ANIMAL POSSIBLE. WE TOTALLY FELL IN LOVE WITH THE BABY ANIMALS! I COULD HAVE FILLED A TRAILER FULL OF ANIMALS TO BRING BACK TO OUR FARM. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND VISITING THIS PLACE!!!
Loved this place! The people were so friendly and the animals so lovable. The only thing I can say about Big Ben is "Wow that is some horse". The produce and baked goods are wonderful. We will definity visit again.
My two year old loves the animals. We've been back a few times and will continue to go back. We love Big John. She loves the pony rides... hopefully we'll get a buggy ride in one of these visits. But, remember these are animals. You must be careful no matter how loving they seem. To the mom who's young one got bit...sorry to hear that. That has to be upsetting. However, I was bit once by my own cat! My fault. I should have known better not to pick him up right after a fight. Remember, no matter how much you love an animal, its still an animal. They do not think like we do and do not react like we would always like them to. Always use caution with the animals...especially when the kids are with you!
My husband and I have been there many many times and absolutely love it. The food is wonderful, workers are very nice and the animals are some of the best taken care of "petting zoo" animals I have ever seen. On a side note to the lady who wrote a review saying her son was bitten by one of the ponies. They are animals and when people stick their fingers close to their mouths they may bite.
We have been to Amish country Ohio 4 different times and this place is always a destination point. We love it! From the awesome fried pies and beef jerky and everything else in the bakery to the baskets, pictures and misc. items in the country store, it's all great. My daughter is 25 but she won't pass up a chance to hold one of the puppies that they always have for sale. And yes animals can and do bite, even if told not too, but I have seen a few kids that bite too. Don't miss this place!
My husband and I (and alot of friends and extended family members) visit this farm and bakery many, many times a year..We make the trip to Berlin several times a year and this is one of our first stops when we get there. We stay in the Scenic Hills Campground and go to Hershberger's nearly every morning. The cinnamon raisin bread makes fantastic French toast! And I can't leave without taking some kettle corn and white chocolate turtles with me...And the fry pies, filled peanut butter cookies and the peach cream pies...WONDERFUL!!! We need a TEN star rating!
This was a wonderful experience. My kids loved the animals. We cant wait to go back in the fall to get the hay rides.
My kids had a wonderful time! Making it a yearly vocation!
We have been stopping here for quite a few years, We know Big Ben well, when we visit, we give Ben an apple, my kids love the petting zoo, you also need to try their donuts, oh my gosh are they so good.
This place is the best stop, I think in our yearly trip to Berlin! I call ahead to put in an order for the cheese tarts as the are very popular. The baked goods, desserts, canned items, packaged chips, produce, etc is all great! I cannot say enough good things about this place. Prices are fair if not cheaper than other places in Berlin. And when you're done shopping you can skip across the parking lot to see the farm animals. The kids (and adults) will love this! They also offer wagon rides. Oh and don't forget to look up to see the goats on the roof! haha This is a have to see place! Keep up the good work Hershberger's!!!!!!
First time visitor to the area (which is beautiful and relaxing!), and found a brochure at the hotel to this place. I read about "Big Ben" & was skeptical that a horse could be that big, so we made plans to visit. I was also a bit concerned as I use a wheelchair to get around due to a limb injury. Well, as soon as we arrived my concerns were put to rest. The place is wheelchair accessible and the people are so nice! I could have gotten lost in the bakery! The fry pies and cream sticks were amazing! Hopefully, the bread makes it home with us (that is if we don't eat it!). The workers were in the horse ride areas with the children when I was there. The roof goats were great, but Big Ben was most certainly the star! What an amazing animal! I can't wait to bring my nephews so they can enjoy the experience too!
