In 1932, my grandfather, W.E. Carter, along with T. Neil Jones, founded the Carter Jones Lumber Company in Akron, Ohio. By 1965, Carter Lumber had grown to 12 lumberyards and opened its first plumbing, electric and heating store in Columbus Grove, Ohio. That same year, Carter Lumber moved its headquarters to Kent, Ohio.

Over 75 years later, Carter Lumber is now one of the nation's top building materials retailers with more than 200 stores in 10 states.
